Surface Mount Assembly

As technology has advanced there has been a huge increase in demand and for the miniaturisation of components and PCB Assemblies. As a result, designs have orientated towards Surface Mount Technology (SMT). Smart Electronics SMT capabilities have evolved to meet and exceed the technological requirements of our customers. In 2016 we were the first Irish company to adopt the revolutionary solder jet printing technology, replacing screen printing to optimise the solder printing process. Since then, we have continued to embrace and invest in new technologies and equipment and now boast a Surface Mount Department that consists of 2 fully automated lines and a dedicated prototyping line with a total placement capacity of over 128K components per hour.

Placement capabilities ranging from 01005 and 0.1mm pitch devices upwards and process capabilities including electrical verification of components (Resistors, Capacitors & Diodes) before placement, automated flux dipping and automated component gluing where required for process optimisation. This is coupled with both Convection Reflow ovens and Vapour Phase reflow technology. We also utiilise 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) with live statistical process control (SPC) data feedback. With the extensive capabilities of our Surface Mount Department, we are confident that regardless of your application or technological requirements we have a process that can meet your needs.

Conventional/Through Hole PCB Assembly

Even with the progress that has taken place in recent years within SMT assembly there is still a very active requirement in most PCB’s for Conventional or Through Hole components. This can be dictated by the design, for mechanical strength or by the power rating of the components used.

At Smart Electronics we have continued to invest in our Conventional/Through Hole capabilities and have 2 Semi-Automated Selective Soldering machines in house. These enable us to automate the Through Hole soldering process which allows us to scale for mid to high-volume where applicable.

To complement our automated processes we also have a team of highly skilled and dedicated operators to assemble the Conventional/Through Hole sections of the PCBA. This is most suitable for situations where there are lower volumes or the unbeatable dexterity of the human touch is required. All assembly is carried out to IPC Standards and verified 100% by our IPC qualified in-house inspectors.

PCB Assembly Test

As each design is bespoke to its application, so too is every PCBA Test. We have a team of Test Engineers on hand to help implement your test procedures in Smart Electronics. Or where required, they can assist you in developing the test procedures for your product and then implement them in-house.

Protecting your pcb assembly

Protecting your PCB Assembly against the environment - Conformal Coating

Depending on the PCBA and its intended use there may be a requirement to protect it from the environments that it could be exposed to. This is becoming more common in the modern world as the advancement in technology see electronics used in almost every application, our cars being the perfect example.

In 2020 we invested in one of the latest 3-Valve conformal coating systems from Mycronic. This system gives us the benefits of being able to completely protect circuits without the need to mask the “no go” connection areas of the PCB prior to coating. This ensures consistency and reduces our process time and the cost to our customers
